Last week I sent out the most recent issue of E-BLAST, the email newsletter of our BLAST Youth Initiative, to over 800 people and organizations. E-BLAST targets people interested in youth, food, land, and agriculture and provides them with information on conference opportunities, funding sources, interesting articles, training opportunities, and useful resources related to these issues. It’s a great way to keep people informed about these things and connected to each other and the great work going on throughout the world.
Both times that I have done the E-BLAST so far, I’ve been amazed about how much work is going on that relates to secure and sustainable food systems and youth development. Having just finished college and started at The Food Project this summer, E-BLAST and BLAST as a whole are great ways to learn about the many opportunities that exist and the different types of great organizations throughout the world. Although I have often heard and read that agriculture is shrinking in many ways, it is refreshing to see that this isn‚t the complete truth and that there is growth and opportunity within sustainable agriculture work.
With all of these organizations, it is important to keep connected so that we can all complement each other, assist with our work, exchange people and ideas, and gain inspiration from each other. E-BLAST can accomplish these goals by helping young people find ways to move up within agriculture and food system work, maintaining regular contact between people, and sharing common resources and knowledge.
And, because we’re all in this together, please let me know if you have anything to share in future issues or any thoughts about E-BLAST.
