The Food Project is slated to make a presentation to the Greater Boston Regional Outreach Team on Environmental Justice on Wednesday, April 26.
The presentation will focus on environmental justice framed in the context of access to healthy food in urban environments, both in terms of soil quality due to environmental hazards and location of chain and corner grocery stores, with reference to the availability of produce in general and local produce specifically.
The Environmental Justice Regional Team meets to achieve the following goals:
–Open lines of communication with local neighborhood groups
–Establish specific task forces
–Identify language issues
–Identify lists of community-based projects for grants funding, for consideration as potential MEPA mitigation
–Develop a list of Supplemental Environmental projects for DEP
–Allow issues with existing facilities to be raised and addressed
–Assist DEP and other agencies with targeting enforcement
–Assist the Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) and other agencies with targeting assistance
–Identify potential economic development opportunities that promote cleaner production and sustainable business practices
